Advocating for a geographically literate society
Arizona Geographic Alliance Announces New Home at Mesa Community College
The Arizona Geographic Alliance (AzGA) has officially transitioned its operations to Mesa Community College (MCC), part of the Maricopa County Community College District, as of August 2026. Dr. Niccole Villa Cerveny will serve as AzGA Coordinator and primary contact.
AzGA’s website and existing resources will remain available through ASU for the 2026–2027 academic year while a long-term website transition is developed. The program is also bringing back professional development events, classroom resources, Big Map training, and new opportunities for Arizona educators.
Upcoming events include:
- AzGA Open House: Saturday, September 19, at Mesa Community College
- GeoConference: Saturday, February 6, 2027
- GeoNeeds listening sessions: October–November 2026, offered online and in person for K–3, 4–6, and 7–12 educators
- Big Map training: Planned for Fall 2026
AzGA 2.0 will also expand opportunities for pre-service teachers and establish an Advisory Council representing K–12 education, higher education, community colleges, and industry.
We look forward to reconnecting with Arizona educators and building the future of geographic literacy across the state. More information and event details will be shared soon.
